A Toronto man is accused of pretending to practise witchcraft while defrauding a victim out of a chunk of cash.
The victim sought out the services of a "spiritual leader" in March, then met with the accused and another man several times during the weeks that followed, a Toronto Police press release said Friday.
It was during the final meeting that the victim was duped out of "a substantial amount" of money, Acting Staff-Sgt. Frank De Lio said.
Batura Draame, 30, was arrested Thursday on charges of fraud over $5,000, false pretence over $5,000, pretending to practice witchcraft, theft over $5,000, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Police asked that anyone with information contact Det.-Const. Brenda Vukicevich at 416-808-1207 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477, 222tips.com, or by texting TOR and your tip to CRIMES.
